Bushcraft can be enjoyed by all. You don’t need any special skills or experience, your Institute of Outdoor Learning instructor will be with you at all times and all equipment is provided.
SAFETY is our first priority – we always check our venues and equipment are suitable and in good working order.
Before our activities start you will receive a full safety briefing from your instructor who has an Institute of Outdoor Learning (IOL) Bushcraft Competency Certificate. Whether you’re a complete novice or more experienced the same rules apply.
Alcohol or drugs must not be consumed or taken before or during the activity.
Bushcraft activities take place at venues in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We have access to access to green spaces and woodlands and if you book an activity with us full details will be provided.
Children’s parties can be held in your own garden if you have enough space and it’s safe.
If you’d like to be taught at a venue of your choice please contact us to discuss. We will need to conduct a site safety survey and risk assessment before we can agree to use your venue.
All year round – the most important thing is for you to wear the right clothes to suit the weather conditions!
We carry on! Some activities can take place under our bushcraft shelter, whilst outdoor activities still prove enormous fun in the rain as long as you’re are appropriately dressed.
Sometimes, however, the great British weather can defeat even the hardiest bushcrafter! We will always carry on as long as it is safe to do so, but we risk-assess continually and will halt or postpone a party if we feel it is unsafe to continue. In the event of this happening, we will let you know at the earliest opportunity, arranging either to reschedule at your convenience or to issue a refund (please note that if your party or event is taking place on an external site, we may not be able to refund the site fee if that has been negotiated separately).
If you decide to cancel the party in poor weather after we have risk-assessed it as safe to go ahead, this will be treated as a cancellation and we will not be able to issue a refund. Please get in touch if you have any questions about this.
Please contact us to discuss – a site survey and risk assessment would need to be conducted to ensure the venue meets the requirements to run a bushcraft activity.
Yes. Our insurance cover is provided by the National Farmers Union.
Your instructor is Richard Clarke. Richard has over 20 years experience working in forestry and conservation and is a lecturer in Countryside Management.
He has an Institute of Outdoor Learning (IOL) Bushcraft Competency Certificate and is DBS checked.
You don’t need to bring too much with you.
Being an outdoor activity we continue in all weather even if it is raining (as long as it is safe to do so). So we ask you to dress suitably for the countryside and time of the year.
Bushcraft parties and events are held outdoors and therefore we can’t guarantee that you’ill stay clean! We recommend you wear warm, old or inexpensive clothes, wellies or old trainers and waterproofs (in the summer please bring suncream and water)
We ask everyone to complete a consent form so we are aware of allergies and medical conditions, as well as providing us with emergency contact details. Consent for under 18s must be provided by a parent or legal guardian.
Consent forms need to be returned at least 5 days in advance so that we can take in to account of any medical conditions.
We request that for groups of 5 children, one adult stays for the duration of the party. For groups of between 5-10 we require two adults (in addition to Really Rural staff). This is to provide an extra pair of eyes for safety reasons.
Additional parents/guardians are welcome at children’s parties. A bushcraft party is an opportunity to give children the chance to try something they probably haven’t experienced before and to use their initiative so we encourage you to watch rather than get too involved. If you’re keen to have a go, we run Bushcraft Days throughout the year – please see What’s On.
If you book a party with us we will email you a downloadable invitation that can be used for your party. At the end of every children’s party, we provide each child with a Bushcraft certificate.
Yes – just let us know when you would like to cut the cake (this will reduce your activity time) so we can get the timing right.
